I met an amazing group of people on my Barefoot coaching course. One of them, John, shared this poem with us all at the end of the course, and we loved how it describes the coaching relationship. John has given me permission to now share it with you here.

Imagine having this friend

Who is a really good listener, never interrupts, never assumes to know what you are going to say, never finishes your sentences.

Talking with this person feels safe, almost like coming home, there is nothing that you can’t say. You know you wont be judged, even when you judge yourself.

You’re able to think through some big thoughts, and sort out all the little stuff cluttering your mind. Somehow it all seems clearer.

And then there are these great questions! Inviting your creativity, challenging you to consider what you know, what you believe, what you assume.

Daring to be bold. To hold yourself to be OK, to imagine that you could achieve great things, to understand that you don’t have to.

With this person all of you is considered, your feelings, your sensations, your thoughts, your desires, your past.

But always always looking into the horizon. What’s next? What will you do now? What else?
